Questions & Answers
1. Which type of wood is best suited for my hot tub / barrel sauna?
The health benefits of a hot tub depend on the type of wood it is made of. Each wood has its own positive effects on the human body. And it's not that easy to describe something as better or worse. In summary, the following can be said:
- Spruce has been traditionally used for hot tubs and saunas for centuries. In addition to many physical properties that are particularly suitable for hot tubs, it also has many advantages for your well-being. With a hot tub made of spruce wood you combine comfort and health.
- Thermowood is particularly durable and resistant. Hot tubs made of thermal wood are much more resistant to weather and temperature influences, the wood warps only slightly when exposed to high temperatures, which means that the hot tub is dimensionally stable and more durable.
2. How quickly does my hot tub heat up?
The heating time of a hot tub depends on the amount of water to be heated, the outside temperature and the power of the heater. Our hot tubs and whirlpools vary in size and water capacity, so the heating time also varies. In general, all our hot tubs are heated to a comfortable bathing temperature between 1-3 hours. Note our tips for shortening the heating time in our blog.3. How do I care for my hot tub/barrel sauna?
In principle, thermowood does not require any further maintenance, but will soon turn gray. If you want to keep the original dark color, we recommend using special oil. Tip! Leave 2 to 5 cm of water in your hot tub and cover with a lid in hot summer time. Change the water regularly. Please note the following for the sauna:
- After installing the sauna in its permanent place, the joints between the sauna's outer walls and the staves are closed with silicone (see assembly video).
- It is important to tighten the tensioning straps in good time, if you tighten them too late, the door may sag or the sauna profiles may be damaged.
- Treat the outside surface of the sauna with wood preservative such as B. a glaze.
4. How do I winterize my hot tub?
We do not recommend leaving the tub filled during prolonged periods of frost. If the hot tub is not to be used over the winter period, then drain the water from the tub and the oven. Also, always leave the drain valve open. Never allow water to freeze in the hot tub, as the frozen water will damage the fiberglass and the stove.5. Can I also bathe in my hot tub in winter?
Yes. Of course, you can also bathe in the hot tub in winter and even when the temperature is below zero, because what could be nicer than sitting in the beautifully warm bath water in the freezing cold and enjoying the starry sky. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:- Be sure to drain the water after use. If the temperature is below zero, the standing water can freeze and damage the wood.
- Be sure to drain the water from the oven.
- After emptying, cover the hot tub again with a cover or, if necessary, with a tarpaulin so that no snow gets into the hot tub that could freeze there later.
6. How long can I leave the water in my hot tub?
That depends entirely on whether you use a filter or chemical means to keep the water clean. Do not use filters or chlorine tablets, for example, we recommend changing the water after 2-4 days. The time it takes for the water to "spill over" depends on various factors, including how often the hot tub is used. We recommend using a sand filter and an additional surface filter, a so-called "skimmer". With these filters, the water can stay in the hot tub for several weeks. It is also important to check the pH value of the water regularly. This should be in the range between 7.2 and 7.6. here you will find everything you need to keep your water clean.7. Which surface is best suited for my hot tub / barrel sauna
We recommend the following as substrates for hot tubs and saunas. It is important that the supporting surface is level and straight, use a spirit level to align the subsurface. We also recommend laying out a vapor barrier foil (e.g. pond foil) on a meadow and a few terrace slabs or wooden beams as a substructure. This allows air to get to the bottom of the hot tub or sauna and the foil stops the moisture rising from the meadow. The conditions under your hot tub or sauna are ideal. Both variants have advantages and disadvantages.
An indoor oven often has more appeal and atmosphere because you are sitting close to the fire. Also, an indoor oven is cheaper.
However, an outdoor oven offers more practical benefits whenever the tub needs to be cleaned or ash removed. There is also more space in the tub. About heat up time: top of the line outdoor heaters heat the water faster than indoor heaters.
9. How does an outdoor oven work?
The outdoor oven has a second chamber around the combustion chamber, which fills with water when the hot tub is filled. The heater is connected to the hot tub using two hoses (included in delivery). If you heat the stove, the surrounding water heats up very quickly and begins to expand. This creates a natural circulation. Thanks to this principle, heating up with an external oven is quicker than with an internal oven.10. Which Oven material should I choose?
Basically, stainless steel is more durable than aluminum. If you overheat an oven without water, but find out in time, the only way to save is with a stainless steel oven. Stainless steel ovens are sturdier than aluminum ones. The aluminum stoves have the advantage that the water heats up faster because of the higher thermal conductivity of aluminium. The heating time depends on the water volume and properties such as fuel quality, ambient temperature, etc. All of our heaters heat up your hot tub within 1-3 hours.11. What is the difference between air massage and hydromassage?
Airmassage creates bubbles in the hot tub, giving a feeling of relaxation and a pleasant white noise. Hydromassage is a powerful flow of water and air used for a good back massage. For a full spa experience, we recommend using both together.12. How is the air massage system and LEDs installed in a wooden hot tub?
The air massage system is built into the bottom of the base plate because there is a cavity underneath. In addition, a wooden box is attached to the side of the hot tub and is included in the scope of delivery. This box contains the pump and a snorkel that prevents water from leaking through the air nozzles.![]() |

13. Do I need a permit for a wood-fired hot tub?
Due to the integrated firing system, hot tubs are subject to the requirements of the regulation on small and medium-sized firing systems - 1. BImSchV. We would like to point out that the limit values of the 1st BImSchV with regard to dust and carbon monoxide when operating the hot tub cannot currently be met, so that if you want to set up a hot tub, you can request an exception from the responsible immission control authority in accordance with § 22 of the 1st BImSchV, which can be granted depending on the individual case.
In some federal states, setting up the hot tub also requires a building permit. In order to obtain a building permit, the special permit from the immission control authority must be available. Please check with your local authorities and also your local chimney sweep before purchasing.
14. How will my hot tub/whirlpool or sauna be delivered?
The delivery of hot tubs, whirlpools, GRP tubs and sauna kits takes place with a small truck with a lifting platform and pallet truck.
In the case of assembled saunas, delivery is carried out using a large truck with a crane. If you have an unloading facility such as a large forklift or something similar on site, we can also deliver with a normal truck.
