An ozone generator is basically a device that can create artificial ozone using UV light and electrical charges. The ozone produced by the ozone generator is a powerful oxidizer that kills most bacteria and microorganisms in the water. Ozone is a very effective and quick disinfectant and cleaning agent.

Water treated with ozone is clear, completely odorless and a great experience. Ozone does not irritate eyes and mucous membranes: Using the ozone generator as described can also reduce the concentration of chloride in the water.

Ozone is a gas that occurs naturally in large quantities in the upper layers of our atmosphere. When UV light meets oxygen, ozone is formed. So when ozone is added to the water in your spa it acts as a purifier and kills most of the bacteria and microorganisms that are in the water.

Our whirlpools / spas are equipped with the latest ozone generators with CD chip technology. This new technology produces 20% more ozone and uses 37% less energy.

Clear and clean water

The ozone gas produced is added to the water through a water nozzle. Two of the three oxygen molecules are responsible for the chemical reaction that results in the water being purified. The third molecule is released into the air and produces a fresh, pleasant and almost sweet smell typical of ozonated water.

When and how long does the ozone generator have to be used?

After the ozone is put into the water, it stays in the water for about 12 hours. This means that after 12 hours the water is no longer cleaned.

The ozone generator does not work continuously, but as part of the filter circuit. The duration of the filter cycle depends on the program set using the Balboa operating system (Refer to the Balboa manual: Programming the filter cycle). However, we recommend using the ozone generator twice a day (every 12 hours for 1 hour) if you use your spa daily. However, other cleaning agents should also be used in order to optimize the pH value and the water quality. Read more about it on our "Water care" page.

We recommend that you replace the ozone generator every two years to ensure optimal performance.
